We are lucky enough to getMason into a speech therapist over at Boone next Tuesday, April 22, at 4:00 p.m. Hopefully at this time we will be able to see where we need to go as far as developing more of a speech pattern for Mason. In the last couple of days he has been trying to repeat, "E-I-E-I-O" from "Old McDonald's Farm" and has been more vocal. (good and bad). :)
On another good note, I have officially hit the third trimester. Reagan will be here in 12 weeks!

Wonderful Friends and Family!
It is so nice to have support and love from friends and family. Since I expressed my concerns over Mason's speech development, I have gotten a lot of advice from people. Luckily, his pediatrician is going to refer us to a speech therapist in the Columbia area. Hopefully we will hear something this week! Mason continues to get anxious and upset when he can't express his needs or wants. It is getting frusterating as parents for us to communicate with him when he is upset because he head bangs and yells.
Today I was lucky enough to have some time to spend with my best friend. She is also pregnant and working nights and it just so happened we could get together today. We went shopping and had lunch in Columbia. I miss doing stuff like that with my friends. Heather and I had fun buying stuff for each other's kids. We spent the entire time chatting and offering support. It is times like this that makes me so thankful to have such a wonderful friend. We are lucky enough that our kids will be born around the same time also. Reagan is going to have a lot of friends her age, as many of us are expecting at the same time.
When I got home today, my friend Starr, from NJ, had sent a gift for Reagan and for Mason. She has been a friend to me since I "met" her on BabyCenter.com since 2005. Although we have never met in person, we feel like we know a great deal about each other. We have supported each other through trying to get pregnant, miscarriages and pregnancy. She sent Reagan a couple really cute outfits and bibs. She also sent Mason a "big brother" gift, a gift card to Toys R Us. It really means a lot to me to have such great friends.
We continue to look forward to our kids growing up with the great support of our friends and family!
Have a great week everyone!!
Love,
Melissa and Kevin

Mommy worries...

As my pregnancy progresses and I realize that it will be only 2 months 4 weeks and 1 day until Reagan's arrival, I quickly go into panic mode over Mason's speech development and overall development in general. Today I made an appointment with his pediatrician, for him to be seen tomorrow, to talk about getting a referral for speech therapy and to talk about his nutritional habits.
Most of you know that Mason doesn't talk much. He just points and grunts to what he wants. He does have a few select words, such as: Mommy, Mama, ight (light), maow (cat), on, hot, bye bye (sounds like my-my), ama (grandma). His speech is limited. Kevin and I have been working hard with him to get him to say Daddy and other words. He just looks at us and smiles. We know he has no problem hearing because his hearing was tested in December when we went to Cardinal Glennon for his cleft team meeting. He can follow 3-4 step complex directions and follow them out with ease. Getting him to verbalize his needs and wants are very hard. I am hoping that his pediatrician will enlighten us on some ideas and get us pointed in the right direction.
The terrible twos are exactly that. He loves to push our buttons and keep us on the move! He is on the go from the time he gets up until the time he goes to bed. He thinks it is funny when we discipline him and will ignore us when we tell him "No!" However, he gives us so many loves and hugs it makes it all worth while. I just hope he starts talking soon, because trying to prepare him for a sibling and how his life is going to change is hard!
I have introduced the potty chair to Mason. Tuesday I sat him on the chair for a little while and he didn't do anything. However, Tuesday evening he ran to get his wipes and powder for us. Kevin asked him if he needed to go use the potty. He ran to the bathroom and immediately sat on the chair with his clothes still on. I took his diaper and pants off and he sat there for a little while. He finally peed twice!!! However, we quickly found out the potty chair that is supposed to work for a boy, really doesn't work well! HAHA! We are going slowly and not pushing him at this point, but he is getting so big, he is quickly outgrowing his diapers!
We are preparing for Reagan's arrival. Today I spent the day straightening up the living room and getting things in order. I am in full nesting mode and feel the need to purge. It is becoming more and more real that she will be here soon, as she is constantly doing acrobatics in my uterus! It makes me happy knowing she is healthy and active. Mason was never this active this early. She loves to wake me up between 2-4 a.m! I hope this is preperation for the upcoming months. We were spoiled to Mason being such a good sleeper, I hate to say it, but I believe Reagan is going to give us a run for our money! But, I can't wait! I can't wait to meet her and hold her for the first time and to see Mason's reaction!
It has been so rainy here the last several days. Today, the creek south of our house was running like crazy. Kevin said he can only remember it doing that a few times when he was growing up. We hope the weather will dry up so Kevin can get the corn fields planted at Mom and Dad's! He is very anxious to get in the field and start farming!

News about Reagan
I had my monthly OB appointment this morning in Columbia. Dr. Wilson had difficulty finding Reagan's heartbeat because she was moving all over the place. I told Dr. Wilson she had been moving all morning long! She finally found her heartbeat and it was about 145 beats per minute. I am up four pounds. My first weight gain this pregnancy! I lost quite a bit of weight with 10 weeks of morning sickness, two bouts of the stomach flu, and one cold!
The most exciting news of the day is that we scheduled my repeat c-section for July 9. My doctor will be going out of town the next day on the 10th, so we went ahead and scheduled the c-section a week before my anticipated due date of 7/17. I am really excited and anxious to meet our little girl!
